What is Hand?
Hand (هاند) is a popular Saudi Arabian variant of Rummy, played extensively in gatherings across the Kingdom. The game involves drawing and discarding cards to form melds — sets of matching numbers or runs of consecutive cards in the same suit. What makes Hand special is its emphasis on going out first; the winner scores zero while all other players are penalized for the cards remaining in their hands. Fast-paced and social, Hand is a perfect game for family gatherings, friendly competitions, and coffee shop sessions.
How to Play Hand
Hand is a Saudi Rummy card game. Here's the basics:
- Setup: Each player receives cards from a standard deck. The remaining cards form a draw pile with one card face-up as the discard pile.
- Draw & Discard: On your turn, draw a card (from the pile or discard) and then discard one card. Build melds in your hand — sets (3-4 of a kind) or runs (3+ consecutive cards in one suit).
- Lay Off & Meld: Once you have valid melds, lay them on the table. You can also add cards to existing melds on the table.
- Going Out: Be the first to empty your hand by melding all cards. The winner scores zero; other players score penalty points for their remaining cards.
